Forgotten Eagle: Wiley Post, America's Heroic Aviation Pioneer
Published in Hardcover by Carroll & Graf (10 December, 2001)
Authors: Bryan B. Sterling and Frances N. Sterling
Average review score:

A very thorough account
This biography is carefully researched, with the footnotes where they belong--at the foot of the page. The authors have done a lot of research and their telling of the dramatic life and feats of Wiley Post makes for a fascinating book. The account of the two round-the-world flights is full of awesome momnets. There is a lot of technical flying data, and for the non-flyer this gets a bit long, as does the exhaustive account of the events following the crash on Aug 15, 1935. From the time that Wiley Post dies there are still 120 pages in the book, but much is interesting and the account of the world-wide grieving is poignant and well-done. There are good illustrations, tho also I would have liked a map of the the area where the crash occurred. But overall, this book tells the story well, and is well worth reading if you are interested in the life of a daring and gutsy early flyer, who should be remembered.

Gifts of an Eagle
Published in Hardcover by Devin-Adair Publishers, Incorporated (01 October, 1994)
Author: Kent Durden
Average review score:

Durden's "Gifts of an Eagle" too good to be out of print.
Kent Durden's "Gifts of an Eagle" was a rare find at the Public Library, and one of those books you want to own once you've read it. There is something about "Lady", the eagle that Kent and his father raised, that reveals a personality, a wild conciousness that was quite marvelous to witness "firsthand". Kent and his father got a liscense from the state of California to capture and raise this golden eagle, (something I doubt is even possible any more, which makes this a piece of history too.) For anyone who loves eagles, you will never get a more personal experience than this. Jeff

I love this original series
The whole original Hopalong Cassidy series is a great, easy read. Good characters and the settings can't be beat. If you can find this book or any others in this series, grab them. They are hard to find but worth the search if you like Westerns.

Jewel on the Yukon, Eagle City : illustrated
Published in Unknown Binding by Eagle Historical Society & Museums ()
Author: Elva R. Scott
Average review score:

wonderful book about pioneer Alaska
The historic town of Eagle, Alaska, is literally at the end of the road, over a hundred miles of rugged gravel Taylor Highway from the Alaska Highway. Nonetheless, it is a major destination for tourists who brave the road, or who come down the Yukon River from Dawson City, due to its wonderful museum, historic buildings and artifacts, and outstanding guided tours.

Elva Scott of the Eagle Historic Society & Museum has presented a collection of essays about the history of Eagle and the pioneers who built it. Here you can read about Erwin (Nimrod) Robertson, the only man who ever ate a grizzly bear with its own teeth, and Judge James Wickersham who brought law and order to the lawless frontier.

A must-read for anyone interested in history.

The Living Word of Saint John
Published in Hardcover by DeVorss & Company (October, 1983)
Authors: Eagle White and White Eagle
Average review score:

White Eagle's Interpretation of the Gospel of St John
As a neophyte to the teachings of White Eagle, I found this book to be a tremendous help to me in my understanding of both White Eagle and the Bible. The book turned what, to me, were previously only barren, impersonal phrases in the Blble into living words which link God with all man via the inner spark of Christos within. It places spiritual unfoldment and evolution within the grasp of anyone with the desire and longing to seek it. Well written, the text moves through the 21 chapters of the Gospel of St. John, with White Eagle's interpretations spelled out in a logical and easy to follow manner. I would highly recommend this book, especially to to those of you who believe that there is no place for God or Christ in their life, as I did such a short time ago. The book puts many things in life into full perspective. I recommend it to you!

Lock On No. 22 : McDonnell Douglas F-15 E Strike Eagle
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Verlinden Productions, Inc. (01 January, 1993)
Author: Francois Verlinden
Average review score:

Lock On No. 22 - F-15E Strike Eagle
This is an excellent book if you want color pictures of the F-15E for modeling purposes (like myself). They are clear and detailed pictures of a brand new F-15E. The cockpit photos are outstanding and numerous, as are the photos of the underside of the aircraft including the landing gear. The book does lack pictures of the upper surfaces of the F-15E, and there are very few pictures of opened access panels. This is understandable, considering the pictures were taken during the time when the F-15E was still considered "sensitive" or "secret". Perhaps the publisher will update the book with additional photos in the near future. In the meantime, I highly recommend the book, especially if you are building a scale model and need more detail about the F-15E.

The Lone Navy Eagle
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (June, 2000)
Author: W. Ed Parker
Average review score:

Memories of an American hero
The Lone Navy Eagle is the story of a young man, forced by fate and bound by duty, into the life of a combat avitator in World War Two.

W. Ed Parker is one of the true American patriots in the nation, tirelessly fighting America's enemies, both foreign and domestic.

Mr. Parker was a farm boy from North Carolina when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. Immediately after completing high school, he joined the Navy and trained for a naval avitator. Although younger and less educated than most of the other cadets, he developed a quick instict for flying.

During the war, he was assigned to the USS Princeton, and spent most of his time in engaged in the tedious, but vital job of recon patrols. He did, however, manage to get combat action against the Japanese, including a daring skip bombing run where he bounced a 500-pound bomb into a Japanese entrenchment, enabling the Marines to advance on the island.

Unfortunately for the book, Mr. Parker wasn't able to utilize many of his records, because his ship was sunk by the Japanese, essentially ending his tour in the Pacific. Without his records, he lacks details of his missions, but he does provide many other details, such as maps and schematics, from extensive research into the Navy archives.

Mr. Parker doesn't detail much daily activity while in the Navy, aside from playing bridge, and reading intelligence reports. It is interesting to note his opinion on the atomic bomb and its role in the war.

This book will be enjoyed by anyone wishing to learn more about the unknown officer in World War Two, one of the "Greatest Generation."
